The Town of Aurora’s 2023 budget document has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Award from Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
The GFOA awards are given to municipalities who meet the highest government budgeting and financial reporting standards. This was the first time the Town has applied for the award and winning is a testament to the Town’s commitment to excellence in business planning and financial reporting.
“This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. A huge thanks to staff for their dedication and excellent work in preparing the 2023 budget. This is a great achievement and an example of the professionalism of our whole team here at The Town of Aurora,” said Mayor Tom Mrakas.
There are over 1,700 participants in the association’s Budget Awards Program. To receive the budget award, Town staff had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, which assess how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, a guide for operations, and a device to communicate with citizens and staff.
The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA's website at gfoa.org. According to the GFOA, award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
