Our crews are working around the clock to clear snow from roads and sidewalks. We know there's still a lot of snow to clear and understand the frustration. We appreciate your patience as staff work through challenges to remove it safely and efficiently.
This morning, sidewalk snow removal will begin on Yonge Street, starting at Wellington and heading south, as well as on Machell Avenue.
Crews are also actively clearing sidewalks with blowers, prioritizing primary roads and school zones before moving to lower-volume local sidewalks.
Here’s some facts to remember.
- A Significant Weather Event remains in effect for the Town of Aurora. This designation extends the timeframe for road and sidewalk maintenance if severe weather exceeds available resources and causes delays in snow clearing.
- We received over 30 cm of snow in a short period, and safely clearing it takes time, especially with limited space for snow storage.
- All staff and equipment are fully deployed to clear snow, with a focus on sidewalks. Crews will continue working through the weekend on snow blowing and lifting efforts for all curb-faced sidewalks.
- As regional and private company plow and clear lanes, they push snow onto our sidewalks and roads, requiring our crews to return and redo their work, leading to delays.
- We have 225 km of roads and 250 km of sidewalks to clear and that takes time and requires maximum resources to complete safely and efficiently.
