Addition of Illumination Requests to the Town’s Flag Policy

Aurora Town Council approved adding illumination requests to the Flag Protocol and Flag Raising Policy. The new building and outdoor space at Aurora Town Square can light up its exterior in various colours, allowing the Town to accept illumination requests. Illumination requests, generally made by charities and not-for-profits, is meant to raise awareness for a cause. The Town Clerk will approve them based on the terms in the updated policy. Council also requested that the Clerk report back in one year with a summary of requests and any impact on the neighbourhood.

Council approved updates to the Street Naming Policy which addresses veteran poppy symbol application and Legion notification. Going forward, the Town will select names from the cenotaph be chosen as street names before any other name is approved. Lastly, Council requested that the name Folliot Street be changed to Folliott Street to correct the misspelling of fallen RCAF member Eric Walter Folliott, who the street was named after.

Asset Management Funding Strategy 2025 and 2026

Aurora Town Council approved the Asset Management Funding Strategy for 2025 and 2026. The recommended short-term asset management reserve balancing strategy ensures that Aurora remains on a financially sustainable path without increasing the previously presented levy increase for 2025 and 2026. An expanded financial strategy commencing in 2027 and beyond will be presented to Council prior to the 2027 Budget.

Windrow Pilot Program Eligibility Criteria

Aurora Town Council approved the eligibility criteria for the extension of the Town’s Windrow Removal Pilot Program as well as a fee of $100 per household to help offset the costs of the program. There will be a fee exemption for low-income residents. To qualify for the free program, the total net income of your household must be below the Statistics Canada low-income cut-offs.

Leash-Free Areas in Aurora

Aurora Town Council referred a report regarding leash-free areas back to staff and requested a new report come back that identifies possible locations for off-leash dog areas or trails, specifically on the west side of Aurora, excluding Highland Gate. Council also requested public consultation on the proposed locations before reporting back.

Motion to Review Train Whistle / Horn Cessation at All Level Crossings in the Town of Aurora

A motion put forward by Councillor Ron Weese and supported by Council requests staff report back on the processes needed to create a bylaw that will result in the cessation of train whistles/horns at all level crossings in Aurora. Train whistles/horns are regulated by external agencies to ensure that safety is maintained at all level crossings.
