Consul General to the UK visits the Town of Aurora

On Monday, March 25, The Town of Aurora had the honor of welcoming the UK’s Consul- General to Toronto, Ms. Fouzia Younis. Consul General Younis serves as the UK’s esteemed representative in Ontario.

Consul General Younis’ visit began with a meeting with Mayor Tom Mrakas and representatives from York Region Economic Development, Aurora Planning and Development Services, Aurora Economic Development Corporation’s Board, and the Town’s Economic Development Division. They discussed a wide range of topics from local manufacturing, sustainability, planning and development, to innovation. The meeting underscored both parties’ commitment to enhancing connections and identifying synergies with Aurora’s diverse business and manufacturing eco-system that has local roots but a global reach.

"It was an honour to host Consul General Younis in Aurora, highlighting the significance of our community’s role on both local and global scales,” said Mayor Tom Mrakas. “We discussed all the great things happening in Aurora including touring our incredible Town Square and showcasing local businesses. We look forward to continuing to build relations that benefit our communities.”

Ms. Younis toured several local sites and businesses including Aurora Town Square, STEM Minds, CleanRiver Recycling Solutions, and Megalab Group Inc. And a visit would not be complete without samples from Kibo Natural Body Care Products, Flow Water, Cookie-It-Up, and Fractals Chocolate. These samples and in-person visits provided the Consul General with insights into the innovative manufacturing, technology and food processing sectors that are thriving in Aurora.

"Diplomacy is a contact sport. These engagements foster economic ties, show the strength of our deep people to people connections, and show how by working together, our local communities are changing the world,” remarked Consul General Younis. "I am impressed by the innovative spirit of Aurora and look forward to exploring avenues for even more partnerships."

Consul General Fouzia Younis took up her position as British Consul General to Toronto in April 2023. Before her posting in Toronto, Consul General Younis was Communication Director for the Pakistan Network, as well as the Co-Chair of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Race Network.
