The Healthy Water Award is presented to individuals, groups and organizations who have completed a project that improves, supports or protects the water quality in the Lake Simcoe watershed.

The Town was recognized for improving local waterways, ecosystems and access to nature through four bioengineering projects at Willow Farm Lane, Jones Court, Devlin Place, and Henderson Drive Wildlife Passage.

“On behalf of the Town of Aurora, I am incredibly proud to accept the Healthy Water Award from our local conservation authority,” said Nancy Fleming, Manager of Engineering and Capital Delivery. “This recognition speaks to our community’s commitment to protecting and enhancing our natural environment. The success of our bioengineering projects demonstrates the power of collaboration, innovation, and dedication to preserving the health of our waterways for generations to come."

These award-winning projects addressed critical environmental challenges by stabilizing eroding streambanks, removing accumulated sediments from a roadway cross culvert and stormwater management facility, and enlarging a road culvert to improve stormwater flow and enhance wildlife passage.

This work will safeguard properties and infrastructure from stream erosion and flooding, reduce phosphorus release into waterways, and create a more vibrant habitat for wildlife.
