Tickets on Sale for Weeks of Performances from September 21 – October 13
Tickets are now on sale for performances throughout Aurora Town Square’s highly anticipated Grand Opening, September 21 – October 13. This momentous occasion will be marked by a variety of indoor and outdoor entertainment, including exclusive previews from partners and captivating performances spanning many genres.
"The Grand Opening of Aurora Town Square is an exciting moment for our community," said Mayor Tom Mrakas. "We are thrilled to welcome everyone to this vibrant new space and bring a multitude of experiences and performances to the heart of downtown Aurora. There’s something for everyone, join us in celebrating this incredible milestone!"
This extended celebration will include the Norman Dance Company’s production that delves into China’s rich culture through the perspective of four orchids. Music enthusiasts can look forward to live classical music with York Chamber Ensemble’s “Mozart to Movies” and Canadian singer-songwriter Marshall Dane, known for his genre-crossing country songs, accompanied by an ASL interpreter. Attendees can immerse themselves in a personalized silent disco party, choosing their favourite musical genre through individual headphones.
The celebration will also feature Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir, drawing on the Welsh tradition of singing hymns and songs, and the Aurora Community Band performing Broadway blockbusters such as "Chicago," "Les Misérables," and "Lion King." Sultans of String’s The Refuge Project will spotlight the diverse stories of recent immigrants and refugees, highlighting their creativity and passion.
The Dave Mowat Trio will transport audience members to a bygone era with a captivating blend of Chicago, Delta, and Country blues, complemented by Indigenous storytelling from Anishinaabe Grandmother Kim Wheatley.
For those who enjoy R&B and Soul, Juno-nominated George St. Kitts will take center stage in a cocktail lounge setting, with themed cocktails and local cuisine. Join internationally known broadcaster and historian, Alan Cross, for an interactive music salon. Theatre lovers can then indulge in performances by Marquee Theatrical Productions, featuring scenes from "The Little Mermaid," "Legally Blonde," and "Alice in Wonderland." Local history enthusiasts can attend the screening of the award-winning documentary "Happy Woodland Pet Cemetery: Uncovering History," followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. While film enthusiasts can participate in a short film festival featuring local seniors hosted by Shadowpath Theatre. Attendees can also view the world premiere screening of The Rug, a short horror movie filmed entirely in Aurora
The lineup also includes a night of Caribbean rhythms by Exodus – A Tribute to Bob Marley led by the top Reggae Performer of the Year, Lazo. The modern classic rock band, Zeus, will perform as the first official rock concert at The Square. Other notable performances include the energetic Fiddlestix extreme fiddle show, The Beresfords with a tribute to the songs of Taylor Swift, and Ysi Cattle along with Louisa Barbosa.
An exciting performance on October 11 will be announced in late August, adding another highlight to the celebrations.
The Aurora Cultural Centre kicks off their 2024-2025 season, Up Close & Musical, on September 27 with Juno-nominated Barbra Lica and her 5-piece band, supported by opening artist Charlotte "Trombone Charlotte" McAfee-Brunner. Their jam-packed season of 26 concerts will take place back ‘home’ at Aurora Town Square.
In addition to the lineup of Grand Opening performances, Aurora Town Square will host a variety of activities, programs, and exhibits.
