The Town of Aurora proudly announces the adoption of its Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP), marking a significant milestone in fostering a healthier, more connected community. The ATMP, developed collaboratively with the community and its partners, is a comprehensive blueprint for promoting and enhancing active transportation in Aurora over the next 20 years.

"The adoption of the Active Transportation Master Plan represents our commitment to building a community that prioritizes accessibility, safety, and sustainability. This plan not only enhances our existing infrastructure but also lays the groundwork for a more vibrant, active Aurora," says Mayor Tom Mrakas.

Active transportation encompasses all human powered forms of movement, including walking, cycling, wheelchair use, rollerblading, skateboarding, and assisted active transportation like e-bikes and electric scooters.

The ATMP, which aligns with key Town policies and plans, including the Town of Aurora Official Plan (2023) and Strategic Plan (2011-2031), will guide Town staff in:

  • Developing a comprehensive active transportation network across Aurora
  • Expanding educational initiatives to promote active transportation
  • Collaborating with stakeholders for successful plan implementation over the next two decades

The ATMP will evolve over time, remaining flexible to accommodate changes and future developments. Annual updates to Town Council will track progress and identify infrastructure and program improvements for budget consideration and approval.
