The Town of Aurora’s Windrow Removal Pilot Program helps seniors and residents with disabilities maintain driveway access by clearing snow windrows left by snowplows.

New in 2024: There is a $100 non-refundable fee per household. Residents who meet the financial assistance criteria may be exempt from paying a fee.

The pilot program will begin on December 1, 2024, and run until April 1, 2025.

Windrow snow clearing begins after primary and secondary roads are plowed and may take up to 24 hours after a snowstorm ends.

The service is triggered by at least 8 centimetres of snowfall. A minimum of three metres of snow will be cleared from the end of your residential driveways. Snow is stored on the  boulevard or appropriate location on site, but sidewalks, pathways and driveways are not cleared as part of this program.

Delays may occur due to weather, so frequent travels should arrange alternate snow removal. If Aurora declares a significant weather event, windrow plows will be dispatched following the end of the significant weather event.

The program excludes driveways on regional roads, commercial, industrial, institutional, high-rise properties, private roads, roads undergoing development and rear lanes.

 Who is eligible?

If you are 65 years of age or older, all occupants of the household must be over 65 years of age and have no other able-bodied occupants residing at the subject property. You must show proof of age in the form of Government issued ID (birth certificate, driver’s license, or passport).

If you are under 65 years of age and all occupants of the address over the age of 16 are unable to remove snow. The applicant must provide a provincial disability permit or a note from a doctor (on doctors letterhead).

What is the cost?

Residents who qualify for the program will be required to pay a $100 non-refundable fee per household for the Windrow Pilot Program for the 2024/2025 winter season. Garbage and Recycling Collection Impacts

If waste containers are placed on the driveway entrance or on the road, windrow clearing may not be possible.

What is my role in the program?

Blocked Driveways

Driveways cannot be blocked by cars parked on the street that prevent clearing activities. If a car is blocking the driveway, the windrow will not be cleared and will not be serviced at a later date.

Garbage Containers

Residents should place  garbage containers on the right side of the boulevard,  not on the road or driveway. For  shared driveways, place containers near your side, away from the pavement to allow plow access. If containers block snowplows, windrow clearing may not be possible.

Driveway Markers

The Town will not be utilizing stakes or driveway markers to identify program participants in 2024/2025.
